On Sunday, September 7, 2025, we embraced "our" saint. It was a long-awaited moment. We dedicated to Pier Giorgio a St. Peter's Square filled with enthusiastic faces, gathered around the good news of a Gospel that smiles, welcomes, shows solidarity, and even joy. A Gospel that invites us to care for the common good, following the example of this young man in love with Jesus and close to the poor.
On the façade of St. Peter's Basilica, one on the left and the other on the right, the tapestries depicting Saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis fluttered, illuminated by the sun of a festive day. Two young men from different eras, united by the same evangelical radicalism: one lived in the early 20th century, the other in our own day. A pipe and a smartphone. A black-and-white photograph and a color one. Two different languages, a single testimony of holiness.
For this reason, approximately 100 people—families, young women, and young men—braved the late-summer heat to reach St. Peter's Square, coming from all over Italy and many countries around the world, and together experience the joy of the canonization.
The Eucharistic celebration with the rite of canonization, presided over by Pope Leo XIV, took place in St. Peter's Square beginning at 10:00 am.
The preparatory journey had begun the previous day, Saturday, September 6, with the public conference " Inside Life, Inside History. The Sanctity of Pier Giorgio Frassati ," dedicated to the figure of the new saint, followed by a prayer vigil at the Basilica of San Giovanni dei Fiorentini presided over by Monsignor Claudio Giuliodori, General Ecclesiastical Assistant of Italian Catholic Action.
